I love to carve whimsical lines and shapes that energize, lean into or bump each other, while they run around the surface of a three-dimensional form. The surface may hold bold black and whites, be tempered with a soda fired orange flashing slip, or trap carbon selectively in the reduction kiln. The making of a piece from clays, glazes and fire holds unlimited opportunities to learn and grow. I began my visual arts journey with clay in high school, continuing briefly at the Corcoran School of Art and then finishing with a studio art degree at Peabody College for Teachers. After a many year hiatus, working with clay in the studio again feels like coming home. It continues to delight and surprise me. I am very fortunate to be working and firing with Jeff Kirk and the Glen Echo Pottery community.
